Accidents Resulting from Police High Speed Pursuits and Responses to Research Paper

Accidents Resulting from Police High Speed Pursuits and Responses to Emergency Calls - Research Paper Example Driver training has been implemented in previous policy changes. Response policies have also been reviewed in the past but there is still a need to look into them one more time to reduce the rising accident cases. Whenever the police are on a high speed chase, they break all the traffic rules. They do not stop at stop signs, they are free to drive on the opposite lanes, and even when they ram into civilian vehicles, they do not stop to ensure the safety of the victims. High speed chases are among the top reasons of accidents in the highways. Despite the actual intention to capture the law breakers, the police violate their response policies by being too inconsiderate and putting the lives of others at risk. The suspects only use the high speeds while trying to escape from the police. Persistence of the police to keep up with the deadly speed only adds fuel to the fire, and not only does it place the lives of other motorists and pedestrians at risk but also threatens the lives of the police and the suspects. Emergency response services provided by the police also fall in the same category of road hazards. While the police are on an emergency response mission, they break all the rules of traffi c, endangering the lives of innocent civilians. Due to flashing lights and loud sirens, the police assume that their vehicles are immune to accidents, and cruise through crowded cities at very high speed, which causes fatalities in case of accidents. The response safeguards several lives at the expense of hundreds more. Emergency responses are vital, but there is no logic in endangering other lives and the respondents lives at the same time. This paper addresses the accidents resulting from police speed pursuits, responses to emergency calls, and the most relevant liability policy that can be implemented to change this. Lawsuits on deaths, damage of private property, and injuries of innocent pedestrians have become the order of the day with each high speed pursuit that takes to the suburbs. This paper focuses on police negligence while in hot pursuits and while responding to emergency calls. It further addresses the need to introduce a more conservative response policy among the off icers. Literature review The National Highway Traffic Safety administration in the United States undertook a survey in 1998 to gather statistics on road fatalities and accidents. The survey found out that in that year, 314 people were killed by the police in high speed pursuits. Among the 314 people, two were police officers who were on pursuit, 198 were suspects who were trying to escape the police and 114 were innocent pedestrians and motorists who were on the roads where the pursuits occurred. The findings also showed that by that time, 10% of all pursuits claimed lives, with 42% of the victims being bystanders who had nothing to do with the pursuits (Hickey Law Firm, 2011). In April 9th 2011, a veteran police officer in pursuit of a suspect rammed into a private car that was carrying a woman, her son and her one year old daughter. The impact was so hard that the baby and the mother were thrown off the car. The child was severely injured and, according to the report, was in a bad condition when she was admitted to the hospital. The woman and her son suffered several injuries and were treated in a hospital in Essex County. The police officer was not hurt and he went right back to work. Similar cases have happened before whereby the police cause fatal accidents and they assume their normal lives as if nothing happened. The negligence to the response policies laid down by the

How Can Chipotle enter Chinese Market Assignment

How Can Chipotle enter Chinese Market - Assignment Example The researcher states that Chipotle should embrace the joint venture strategy to access the Chinese market since it allows more time for the establishment and launch of products. It involves identifying an established firm in China and increasing investment through the sharing of resources. The joint venture strategy is appropriate since it will enable Chipotle to gain knowledge of the local market. This takes place through the host firm’s ability to analyze competitive conditions, culture, language and political systems. Considering these aspects, it becomes easy to understand the preferences of the host clients and the competitive trends in the country. Another advantage of Chipotle using the joint venture entry strategy is that the costs and risks experienced in starting up a foreign market are shared between the partners. This is viable, especially if the host nation charges high duties on foreign firms or if the business will take longer to adapt to the new situations. Si milarly, through joint venture strategy, Chipotle can avoid the threats of nationalization or other unfavorable government hindrance that may arise. This implies that a government policy that may affect the entry of foreign firms is avoided through the collaboration with the local firms. However, this entry strategy may also attract challenges to Chipotle if appropriate measures are not put in place. For instance, the use of the joint venture may enable the host firm to control the production technology. It is also apparent that a firm may lose the tight control over subsidiaries, which it might require to actualize the location economies. This reduces the potential for the firm to expand to other markets across the host nation. There are also instances where joint ventures might lead to conflicts due to losses or control of resources.

Marketing And Cultural Awareness Of Korea Essay Example for Free

Marketing And Cultural Awareness Of Korea Essay Korea is a country which is situated in one of the most strategic area of the worlds. It positioned in an environmentally conducive which are compatible most activities which go on daily basis. There are wide approvals which are received from the diverse changes of environments. The country receives two seasons of hot and warm climatic conditions. This provides opportunities to carries out different activities at different period of the year. The activities range from agricultural based work which includes fishing and land cultivations to tourisms. Agricultural chores are not eminently carried out within the country as the rains are not often reliable. However, there are vast rich lands which produce wide variety of agricultural products. Such land which lies to the southern parts of the prestigious state. The people have developed the uniqueness adoption to accommodate the various foods stuffs richly comprising of the fruit. These are adequately endowed with sweetness which they really enjoy during the hot periods of the day especially in the lunch hour time. This is certain fully juicy sweetness of the fruit is highly enjoyed by the inhabitant. These and other factors make Korea a metropolitans place for which cannot be overlooked on rapid business operations prospering from one level to any. (Gerson, 1995) Many people from allover may critically have negativity of the past situations which the Korea country has been devastated by war. But to the recent surprise is that the country is emerging to be the most attractive for investments. Like many English men have said in the past many years, it can also be repeated by the new generations in existence that let bygones be bygones. The new era of the Koreans has come which is transforming the country’s economic from its dismal grounds the leading level. Thus is seen as it is going to match with the most developed countries which for a more than ten decades has been mocked and blasphemed by the world over. As it is observed from the current research on the economics fields, the Koreans haves advanced within the past half century, making the country to achieve the fasted economic growth in the world. This is achieved after having risen from the poorest world’s countries to developed country. This is an extraordinary development which cannot be achieved by the singled country efforts on the internally produced products. The increase in productivity of a state or systems encompasses many factors. Some of the factors are internally attributed while others are externally contributed. The internally factors which are more important have contributed to this extraordinary emergency of the Koreans growth. It is observed that the moment peace fades away from one point of space; it is replaced with the enmity which brings in destruction and havoc. There is also a reverse change of the same trends that when enmity clears off tit is replaced by peaces. Unsubtly the Koreans have discovered this secrecy and this has led the country to greater heights of peace people. The fruits of it are now forming the centre of rejoicing for the people are in sheer freedom country. This restored peace is not only being a amazing blessing to the Korean sect but it is a relinquish of agony to the neighboring states as it formed a metropolitans place for many. Among the main advantaged are these indigenous citizens of the closely related people from the china state who for have been their key in the general development in the Asian continent. It’s said that a character is built from the people of whom someone associates with. It seems that the Koreans are much matching themselves with the highest flying countries to achieve global recognitions. The country has developed goods relations with the people from many countries for which it is seen to maintain closers relationship with those states which have higher market demand likes china and Japan. These are some of the most renowned countries which have also developed from such impoverished state to world class recognized world power. It is therefore the believes of most citizens hailing from Korea that the same open countries focus to entertain and attract many investors, the country will be a worlds in development as well as world’s largest market. The efforts of doing so are very eminent which are not limited to private and public organization together with the ruling government. The government has relentlessly been vigilant on many area concerned with the thriving of the economy growth both internally and externally. The effort for this has created a challenge in developing new infrastructures within the various point of developing. It is evidence that the government has initiated the one of the vast area for the development of logistics infrastructure. This are mostly designated development place for the provision of free economics’ zone. Such an opportunity has been widely applause both by the Koreans and even by the core and feeble Koreans relatives. The cloth has been cut to impress those who are craving for the trading chance to amaze the other countries which are dragging slowly in development. This is therefore highly an inevitable opportunity which the whole Korean community has confidence that a swarm of investors will definitely enough. (Bangs, 1990) The provisions which the Koreans are using are not limited to high competitive industrial structures. Many companies are coming up with minimum restriction the trade policy departments and ministries. This has given room for set up huge industries which produces various products. Some having substitute and competing products while others have monopolized productions due to lack new investor. The monopolized scheme debated own day by day. This has leads to the government to invent the new systems of offering the free economic zone where investments are encouraged to take place especially the monopolized products manufacturing companies. This include companies such those involved in the shipbuilding, automobiles and the electronics devices which are rarely available to the local markets. After considering the needs of citizens especially the youth, the governments have reduced dramatically the taxes on these products. They further providing subsides to the companies so that low priced products are realized in the marketing. The efforts are not only for the provision of low priced products, but they are also geared at high production. This is being achieved by the provision of training course at low costs to the youth who are interested in learning the new sort of technologies. It is estimated that the introduction of this program more fours hundred thousands youngsters have been trained. These are new people who can invent and even news methods for the development of standards. The high population of the country is providing surprising cheap labor which is readily available in the main central business. This allows the investor to cheaply produce the products with highly motivated and industrious Korean workforce. This spirit of the Koreans has an exciting significance influence over the major manufacturing sectors. Generally, such spirited individuals and effortless campaigns by the rulers are seen highly reduced prices which are giving the other world class international traders a very stiff competitive conditions. (Kishel, 2000)   The most tricking factors which make Korea highly success state is the strategic positions in which it holds. The country being situated in open of the major economic bloc, it has more than fifty one cities which hold a population exceeding one million people. The good relationship of the Koreans people makes them trade widely with the people from Seoul which is just 3.5 hour flight. Since there is even greater populations in the territories of the Seoul city, which holds more than 700 millions peoples living within a radius of 1200 km, these are ready markets in which fast goods are rushed for sale. The greater population of the people which visa now excedsing the productivity capacity is creating pressure on the resources available. This is calling for the rapid changes on the productions systems which will enable the country continue to expansion its commodities to its markets.   The goods have ready markets in added advantages to the investors who would continues to captures the intended reduction cost of road and air transports costs. This forms extra effort for the Koreans to introduce the high communication networks. Such is the dreams of having global power house which will transform the countries within the shortest period of time. (Withers, 1990) Reference: Withers, J. The Hurricane :: essays research papers

Lyrical Analysis Presentation   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  On July 17, 1966, in Paterson, NJ, Rubin â€Å"Hurricane† Carter was contending for the heavyweight boxing title, when, one night, he was pulled over and suspected of a murder. There was no evidence or witnesses to prove the Hurricane guilty, but the cops needed somebody to blame; so they fixed the trial, and Rubin received the short end of the stick. He was put away for life for a crime he didn’t commit. This is a true story. The song was written by Bob Dylan to bring Rubin’s situation to the public. Rubin Carter was a black man; so many people, including judges and cops, just turned their head. The Hurricane’s verdict was changed after nineteen years in prison. He is now trying to live the life that was taken from him. Dylan’s song, â€Å"The Hurricane† explains how Rubin Carter was proven innocent, but found guilty.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Shots were fired, and a triple murder was committed. Two people were at the scene, Patty Valentine and a man, but there were no witnesses. The man next to the bodies said, â€Å"I was only robbin’ the register, I hope you understand.† Somehow this burglar is not suspected of the murder.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The number one contender for the heavyweight title is not even near the shootings. It says â€Å"Meanwhile, far away in another part of town, Rubin and a couple of friends are drivn’ around.† But he was pulled over anyway â€Å"just like the before and the time before that. In Paterson, that’s just the way things go. If you’re black you might as well not show up on the street ‘less you wanna draw the heat.† People were very racist back then, and therefore a black man was always suspected before a white man.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The police are at the scene gathering information. The burglar and his partner said they saw two middleweights running, and Patty Valentine agreed with them. A cop sees that the bartenders not dead, â€Å"and though this man could hardly see they told him he could identify the guilty man. The cops have to find a person to blame, and even though it doesn’t say it in the song, Rubin has had trouble with the Chief of Police when he was younger.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Rubin is hauled to the hospital, so that the bartender could identify him. â€Å"The wounded man looks up through his one dyin’ eye, says, wha’d you bring him in here for?

Child Development Essay

The Montessori method of education is one of the very unusual approaches of educating young children that has been based on the experiences and research of educator and physician Maria Montessori (1870–1952). The method basically arose from what Dr. Montessori’s discovered and named it the â€Å"the child’s normal nature† back in 1907 (Montessori, 1972). This happened during one of her experimental observations with young children who had been given the freedom they need d in an environment that was fully prepared with all the materials and was specifically designed to support their self-directed learning experiences (Montessori, 1977). Factor generating an amazing child Law of Will A child’s development of will has been regarded as one of the laws of development as per Montessori’s observations. She herself has clearly indicated how she observed this development of a child’s will. When a child does any action just by himself, without having any form of assistance, this clearly signifies the fact the child is consciously making decisions. In this regard therefore, the will should be treated as a form of strength that mainly comes to the light of consciousness (Montessori, 1972). Will however is not a strength that is possessed by the child at birth; it is rather in potential. It is one of the slow processes of development that is brought into effect through continuous interactions within the surrounding environment. Since it is the nature that brings into consciousness this kind of force, the development of a child’s will helps him to greatly develop the power that he has been given by nature (Montessori, 1988). Law of Intelligence According to Montessori, this happens to be the key that opens the necessary mechanisms involved in true education. This law states that intelligence just helps a child to better understand life; it thus prepares a child for future education (Montessori, 1977). The Montessori thus argued that if the environment was well prepared, this would greatly help the child to interact effectively with his environment and to construct his mind. Intellectual development is important as it helps a child to know as well as explore the environment. Through the developing senses, a child is endowed with the necessary mechanism of interacting with the environment (Montessori, 1972). Montessori Philosophy of education Maria Montessori early on in the 20th century had the intuition that even before a child is of age 3, various functions in that child are constantly being created in a psychic process and only after 3 that they develop. Montessori thus strongly believed that it is the natural laws that govern the development of any child. She thus assumed that as a child hits three years old, all of the unconscious preparation needed for future activity and development has already been established. One of the child’s unconscious goals is the development of mental functions. It should however be noted that these kind of natural laws which basically govern the psychic growth of the child are revealed through his developmental process (Montessori, 1972). Maria Montessori was able to discover just by observing children the phenomenon of what she called sensitive periods of an absorbent mind as well as natural laws that governs the physic development of children. She thus named these kind of natural laws: 1 natural law of independence, 2) natural law of work,  3) natural law of will, 5) natural law of attention, 4) natural law of intelligence, 6) natural law of creativity and imagination, 7) the 4 planes of growth and 8 natural law of spiritual and emotional life) (Montessori, 1988). With this kind of realization, Montessori was determined to see that the education system gained a new goal: and this is to make sure that the child was assisted by the teachers and directors to turn out into a human being that he or she was created to be (Montessori, 1972). She argued that, the only way to be bale to help a child is if we know the Nature of the child, since then we are in a good position to help him to fully develop all of his inner powers so that he can grow from being a helpless creature into a responsible mature citizen. This approach by Montessori thus values the believe that a child’s main goal since birth is to just but develop all of his potentials according to a certain physic pattern that he does possess even before his birth (Montessori, 1977). In real practice, Montessori method has only been applied with some kind of varying degrees of strict adherence to the main philosophies, though it is generally agreed that they all somehow subscribe to some of her writings (Polk and Montessori, 1988). The result has been that there are some people who strictly adhere to either one of these philosophies, while there have been another group that have seen it wise to develop a unique concepts all based on interpretation of her philosophies and writings. There are thus several concepts that are now widely accepted by several practitioners and which are said to be consistent with the teachings of Montessori method. These concepts have been developed from different laws (Montessori, 1972). Montessori fundamentals and intuitions The application of this method requires that the teacher views the child as a being having a kind of inner natural inherent guidance for her or his own self-directed development which in reality is the only perfect method according to Montessori (Montessori, 1988). The major role of the director, teacher, directress, or guide is basically therefore to watch over the child’s environment and make sure that it has no obstacles that might interfere with the natural and perfect development of the child (Montessori, 1977). Part of the role of the teacher might also include experimental interactions with the children under his or her care, and this is what Montessori referrers to as â€Å"lessons,† with the aim of resolving wrong behavior or maybe to demonstrate to the children how they are supposed to make use of the self-teaching materials (Montessori, 1972). Due to the child’s unique sensitivity and instincts to various conditions in the environment, this method has only been recommended to be applied to young children (2-6). Though this be the case, the method has in some instances also been applied to elementary age (6–12) school going children and at other times with toddlers and infants. Though with less frequency, the method is also applicable to high and middle school level students (Montessori, 1977). Conclusion To be able to develop themselves fully, children need a special inner tutor which Montessori referred to as absorbent mind and sensitive period. The natural laws that govern the child normal psychic developments are revealed during his development. This philosophy by Montessori Method has however remained confused and obscure since many claim that her 1907 discovery was purely accidental. The result of the criticism and questioning of her method has resulted to Montessori philosophies and organizations expanding considerably with three main philosophies thus developing.

The Benefits Of Embryonic Stem Cell Research - 1184 Words

â€Å"Embryonic stem cell research will prolong life, improve life and give hope for life to millions of people.† This quote by Jim Ramstad is about the benefits of Embryonic Stem Cell Research. Stem cells give us many opportunities to find the mechanisms that help regulate embryonic development, organ maintenance, and cellular differentiation. (Ramalho-Santos and Willenbring 35-38). Embryonic stem cell research has been around for many years. It has proven to be very beneficial to the medical world, but not enough research is being done to further the development which could help many people with muscle loss and deterioration of cells. Since the 19th century, scientists have been researching stem cells as cures for diseases. It was in the mid 1800s that it was discovered that cells were the building blocks of life and that there were some cells had the ability to produce other cells. (Murnaghan). With this discovery, many scientists set out to find the abilities stem cells were capable of having. The first use of the term â€Å"stem cell† has dated back to as early as 1868 by a German biologist named Ernst Haeckel. (Ramalho-Santos and Willenbring 35-38). Stem cells are cells that either have the ability to divide and are able to become more identical stem cells or they could form specific cells of somatic tissues. With stem cells there are two types: embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells (Hum. Reprod. (2003). Embryonic stem cells are obtained from embryos. The Sociology of the Family Unit

Sociology of the family is a subfield of sociology in which researchers examine the family as one of several key social institutions and units of socialization. The sociology of the family is a common component of introductory and pre-university academic curricula because the topic makes for a familiar and illustrative example of patterned social relations and dynamics. Culture of the Family To consider the sociology of a family, sociologists utilize family culture as the biggest research tool at their disposal. They do this by examining the existing structures and practices of each family to make sense of the pieces of the larger unit. The sociology of a family is founded on many cultural factors that shape its structures and processes, and sociologists must look at these to understand many complexities of the field. Factors like gender, age, race, and ethnicity are just some of the factors that influence the relationships, structures, and practices within each family. Shifting demographics also tend to affect family culture and sociologists seek to understand why and how. Family Relationships Relationships should be closely investigated to better understand family dynamics. The stages of coupling (courtship, cohabitation, engagement, and marriage), relationships between spouses through time and parenting practices and beliefs must all be examined. These elements of relationships can be approached differently, depending on the goals for research. For example, some sociologists have studied how differences in income between partners influences the likelihood of infidelity, while others have examined how education affects the success rate of marriage. Relational nuances contribute substantially to the sociology of the family. Parenting is especially significant to the sociology of a family unit. The socialization of children, parental roles, single parenting, adoption and foster parenting, and the roles of children based on gender are each handled differently by every family. Sociological research has found that gender stereotypes influence the parenting of children at a very young age and could even manifest in a gender pay gap for childrens chores. Sociologists have also studied the effects of homosexuality on parenting to understand the influence of this type of romantic parental relationship on children. Parenting relationships are deeply important to family culture. Family Structures Common and alternative family forms are also leveraged to gain insight into the sociology of the family. Many sociologists study the roles and influence of family members within and beyond the nuclear or immediate family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, godparents, and surrogate kin. Families affected by marital disunions and divorce often have very different dynamics than families with stable, healthy marriages. Singlehood is another structure that is important to study. Family Systems and Other Institutions Sociologists who study the family also look at how other institutions and family systems affect each other. The influence of religion on a family is often worth considering and the influence of a family on religion can be equally insightful. Even unreligious and agnostic families often have some spiritual practices. Likewise, sociologists are interested in the way that a family is affected by work, politics, mass media, and the effect of family on each of these. Overview of Focus Areas The following gives a brief summary of the technical themes present in the study of the sociology of the family. Understanding each of these concepts makes it possible to understand the sociology of the family. Demographics A focus on the demographic makeup of families and how they shift with time or location is a major point of discussion in the sociology of the family. For example, research in 2019 found that millennial adults were most likely to live at home with their parents in smaller cities than any other generation and were also responsible for increasing racial diversity most within their families. Social Class How social class affects a family and how the family itself might help or hinder individual social mobility, or movement through systems of society, is another key topic of discussion in beginning sociology. Disparities not only within a family but between impoverished and wealthy families are often very informative. Social Dynamics When researching the sociology of the family, it is important to study familial social dynamics and note the various interactions that take place. This includes looking at the relative roles and routines of family members in a larger unit over a long period of time. Other Topics Other topics likely to be covered when exploring the sociology of the family include: How social and economic changes affect families. The diversity of families and households. How family beliefs and principles influence choices and behaviors.
